Review – Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian (2009)

Well today I decided that since the rain was going to keep us inside once again I’d take the family to the movies.  It has been awhile since we saw anything, and there are a few “family” safe movies out right now so the door was wide open on what we saw.

Now to be honest I wanted to see Star Trek, but after a bit of discussion my son decided he would call a friend and we’d go see Night at the Museum:  Battle of the Smithsonian.

Now we did see the first night at the museum when it came out a few years ago and we really enjoyed it.  Ben Stiller was enjoyable, and I even enjoyed Robin Williams as Theodore Roosevelt (I am not a Robin Williams fan),  So with that movie in mind we headed out the door, thinking that this sequel might live up to it’s predecessor.

Being a sequel I didn’t really expect this movie to be as good as the original, and unfortunately I was right.  Although the movie was not bad it just did not deliver the comedy and whimsy of the first.  The plot was not nearly as believable and there were just too many characters for you to fall in love with.

Now saying that the boys loved the movie.  Constant laughing and a B+ and A- grade from the boys tells me that the producers hit the mark, at least when it comes to 10 year old.  However, the wife and I gave this one a generous grade of C, with a review of “it didn’t suck”.

Overall, if you have a “tween” in the house that just has to see this movie, go ahead and see it.  Otherwise, it’s a wait until a rainy day and get it on Pay Per View (it’s not worth the drive to Blockbuster).  You’ll be entertained but that’s about it.
