This weekend (September 3-5) is the annual hot air balloon festival in Memorial Park! This is a really fun* event for the whole family, and if you haven’t yet been, I can tell you I think it’s worth the effort to get up early or stay up late!

The main event starts on Saturday morning, when the balloons lift off around 7 AM. Then, on Saturday night, you can see the balloons on the field with their fires lit, know as the “Balloon Glo”. The same events repeat on Sunday, and then on Monday morning you can see the balloons launch one last time.

Note that all of these events are weather-permitting, which is why there’s an asterisk up there next to “really fun”. It’s fun when you get to see the balloons lift off, but it’s not so fun when they can’t lift off because of wind or other weather conditions. A couple of years ago they also cancelled one of the Balloon Glo events because of rain.

So, my advice after a couple of not-so-successful trips to the balloon festival is to check the weather and the local news websites and the Colorado Balloon Classic’s Facebook page to make sure there are no weather delays or cancellations

You can get complete info on the event here.
