Scout Uniform Day

Scoutmaster Ben Dibble wrote to us with a splendid idea:

Scout Uniform Day!

February 8, 2010

The 100th Birthday of Scouting

On February 8th join us in celebrating the 100th Birthday of Scouting. On that day we would like everyone to wear their Scout uniform. Wear it to work. Wear it to school. Let us show the country how many of us are involved in Scouting.

I’m sure you know that many sports teams wear their jerseys or “shirt and tie” on game days. This is just like that. We are letting everyone know that we’re proud of our group. We do great things like Scouting for Food, charity work, and Eagle Projects.

You will be surprised at how many people will ask you about Scouting. This may be your chance to get a new member of you Den or Pack. Or perhaps some group in your community needs help, and you can direct them to your Scout Troop for a Citizenship in the Community project, or an Eagle Project.

Tell all the Scouters you know! Forward this on!

See you on Monday the 8th in your uniform!

Two Dallas-area Boy Scouts get Heroism Award

Heroism-award You tell your Scouts to "Be Prepared" for anything, but would they know what to do when a model rocket flies off course and into the chest of one of their peers?

Josh Raynes and Chris Rogers did.

For their actions in saving the life of 16-year-old Connor McNeil, the boys received the Heroism Award (left) in a ceremony yesterday.

To read how their actions saved the day, click here.

The Heroism Award, first given out in 1923, is awarded to youth or adults who use Scouting skills to attempt to save someone's life with little or no risk to themselves. Only about 3,000 have been awarded in the medal's history.

Winterspree

On Saturday we got to enjoy the morning at the USAFA for Winterspree 2010.  Lots of photos and you can see them by clicking here.

No Changes to Thuis.us

Back in December I announced big changes for Thuis.US users in the near future. Well it looks like I may have put the cart before the horse, and currently no changes are going to happen.

I thought I could use an old E-Machine I had in crawl space initially for my server. Well the thing is dead, dead, dead. I can’t even get it to boot up an show me a screen 99% of the time, and when I get it to finally boot, I can’t get linux to load on the stupid machine; I think the hard drive might be bad. Topping the proverbial cake, the system is so old it doesn’t even have a network card, so I can’t even connect it to the network until I install a card. Which I won’t do until I get the system to work… excuse me while I ramble.

So for now… nothing changes.

I’ll let users know if that changes in the future.
