New Radio Format
I got a lot of complaints the Ubroadcast.com format was just not working for a lot of folks. So I have decided to try a different service in my little endeavor here to play amateur radio host. If you are interested in the show, please go to http://radio.thuis.us and then let me know what you think of the new format.
Just in time for Valentines Day
From my e-mail:
THESE ARE ENTRIES TO A WASHINGTON POST COMPETITION ASKING FOR A TWO-LINE RHYME WITH THE MOST ROMANTIC FIRST LINE, AND THE LEAST ROMANTIC SECOND LINE:
1. My darling, my lover, my beautiful wife:
Marrying you has screwed up my life.
2. I see your face when I am dreaming.
That’s why I always wake up screaming.
3. Kind, intelligent, loving and hot;
This describes everything you are not.
4. Love may be beautiful, love may be bliss,
But I only slept with you ’cause I was pissed.
5. I thought that I could love no other
— that is until I met your brother.
6. Roses are red, violets are blue, sugar is sweet, and so are you.
But the roses are wilting, the violets are dead, the sugar bowl’s empty and so is your head.
7. I want to feel your sweet embrace;
But don’t take that paper bag off your face.
8. I love your smile, your face, and your eyes
Damn, I’m good at telling lies!
9. My love, you take my breath away.
What have you stepped in to smell this way?
10. My feelings for you no words can tell,
Except for maybe ‘Go to hell.’
11. What inspired this amorous rhyme?
Two parts vodka, one part lime.

Hello Everyone

Well it has been quite some time since I wrote anything substantial here on the blog (some would question if I have ever said anything substantial). I know I always have a ton of excuses, but not this time. Just have not felt like typing anything up for a while, but tonight is different…
So what has been going on since I last wrote (I am guessing sometime in November). Well a ton of stuff and not a lot. Life continues on here in the Thuis house. Without much excitement… but that is fine with us.
School
Back to school – I have decided to head back to school in the hopes that furthering my education will help in the job search. So far I am only taking one class with another to start in March. So far the biggest challenge is just doing the coursework. It’s not hard work, but my class is on the internet and it’s tough to get motivated to sit here and type things up (as indicated by the lack of blog entries).
Work
Job Search – With near double digit unemployment here in C.S. my job search has come to a screeching halt. The phone has stopped ringing and I haven’t had an interview in months. I am still applying and will not get discouraged as I am sure an opportunity will open up soon. Luckily, retirement does pay for a few things and with a little tightening of the belt we should be O.K. for awhile.
Volunteer Work
Cub Scouts – This still takes up way to much time of my life. The boys are now in fourth grade and are becoming a lot harder to keep focused. You would think with four years of experience under the belt things would be easier, but I am finding these boys come up with new challenges for me every day.
Parent involvement has been way down this year at every level, which has made event planning (and all other planning) even more difficult. Our last Pack Planning meeting only had three parents show up and two of those were me and my wife. So needless to say we seem to be planning most of the events. I am not sure what these parents are gong to do next year when we leave the school, but I guess things will work themselves out.
Somehow I have been sucked into a lot more work at the District level for the Scouts. I initially just volunteered to work on the website (it hadn’t been touched in two years), and now I am a full fledged worker bee. I assist with just about everything from camps, popcorn sales, and even help run the monthly leader meetings for the Cub Scout Roundtables. My biggest project right now is to put together a large outdoor weekend training class for all the Webelos leaders (4th and 5th grade) to teach them how to camp with their boys. Luckily for me the training isn’t until October so that’s been kind of on the back burner lately.
School PTO – For the last five years I have run the PTO website for the school. Fortunately, this still does not take up much time. I know the PTO President reads my facebook page where a copy of this is syndicated so I say to her… Send me some stuff!
Youth Sports Coach - The boy is not currently playing any sports so my coach card is empty… thank goodness. He does however start team handball next week so we’ll see how that goes. I have not been asked to coach yet, but when the folks that run any of these programs find out I have a Gold Level Coaching Certification from the National Youth Sports Coaching Association, the request for me to assist usually comes pretty quickly.
Well that is all for now. I have actually typed up more than originally planned, and it is getting late. Until next time… Good Night!
