New Bill Would Help Vets Find Civilian Jobs

According to G.I. Jobs magazine, a new bill to help military veterans find civilian employment jobs was unveiled May 10 in Washington D.C. The Veterans Employment Act of 2010. Highlights of the bill include:

  • Creating pilot programs to test ways transitioning service members can build on the technical skills learned in the military and better market them.
  • Expanding the Post 9/11 GI Bill to allow returning veterans to use the benefit for apprenticeship and worker training programs.
  • Establishes a Veterans Conservation Corps Grant Program and a Veterans Energy/Green Jobs Grant Program to connect veterans with the green jobs market.
  • Requires the Department of Defense and Department of Labor Veterans Employment and Training Service to examine the Transition Assistance Program for active duty service members and recommend how to update and upgrade the program.
  • Examines the expansion of the National Guard Employment Enhancement project which would provide transitional assistance to National Guard members.
  • Establishes a Veteran Business Center Program within the Small Business Administration to provide entrepreneurial training and counseling to veterans.

    Scallops Mascarpone Recipe from Allrecipes.com

Here is the recipe I used to base what I made for dinner… Don’t know if I can call what I made Scallops Mascarpone, because I didn’t have any Mascarpone cheese and was to lazy to go to the store and look for some. I made tons of substitutions… brocolli instead of asparagus, canned mushrooms, dried parsley, cream cheese instead of Mascarpone… It was still delicious!

    Farish Camping

    IMG_5197 (3)

Spent the last three days “camping” at The Farish Recreation Area on the USAFA.  We are so lucky to have an area like this near by.  Had a great time.

No tents for us this time as we rented a cabin, which worked out great, because my mother and father in-law decided to join us.  Fishing was poor, Neither my son or I caught a single fish.  My wife caught one trout, and a fish I couldn’t identify, it was small so it was thrown back in… My father-in-law caught four fish, but again they were fairly small fish, so they went back in as well.  All in all just a relaxing time.

Photos from my wife’s Facebook Page

"had a great time in the mountains, caught a fish, and even saw the USA soccer match, satellite TV is awesome!"
