Back to School Night

Well tonight was Back to School night at good ol SRES. Got to go in and see everyone we haven’t seen over the summer and meet the boys new teacher. Unfortunately, my visit was cut short when I found out the local Scout District has decided to do some recruiting tonight. So it was rush home and change so I could help out (ended doing the last hour solo… oh well). Recruited 6 new boys to the pack so I am not complaining… much.

Three Year Anniversary

Today is the three year anniversary of the Thuis.US blog. 335 posts may not seem like much, but seems like a lot to me. Anyway, heres to another year!

Boys day at Elitch’s

Well this week we are celebrating the end of summer… at least for the boy, as school starts again next week. The wife is still in D.C. and we haven’t done much this week, until today. The boy and I decided to head up to Denver and have one last hurrah at Elitch’s. The weather was fairly nice and we spent most of the day at the water park portion of the park. Although, I have “looked” at the water park, I had never really stepped in to experience it. I have to say it was pretty nice. For those of you familiar with Denver it was no Water World. But considering how much we paid to get in (nothing) it was a lot of fun. The wife is scheduled to be back home tomorrow night and we have a big weekend planned with the Cub Scout Picnic, so I looking forward to a good weekend.

Another Sunday

Well today was another quiet and boring day. Rain outside and “the wife” in Wahington D.C. gave me some time to get some thing done around the house. I finally figured out what was wrong with the Cub Scout website I administrate (http://cspack225.org) and now it is back up and running. Still some problems but I can live with those.

I am currently the Committee Chairman for the above Cub Scout Pack and so I also spent some time tring to finalize our annual Back to School picnic that we are having next weekend. This is probably our biggest event of the year. All the school staff, local Scout staff, and families are invited to attend. Luckily I got one of the local Boy Scout troops coming in to help us run the the picnic so it should go pretty smooth… I’ll let you all know in the week to come….

Baseball Closing Ceremony

This afternoon we had our closing ceremony for the kids. Normally we have a big ceremony where we read off all the kids’ names, present them with an award, and then have a meal. Today’s was outside and a hazardous weather warning made today’s ceremony a bit different. Today we just got together as teams on the PAFB Parade grounds ate pizza “picnic style” and passed out each kid’s award. I actually really liked the arrangement. Less formal, but I got to spend a bit more time with the kids. I probably would have had a better time if I wasn’t still so tired from the Scout-Sox game last night.

Sky Sox Scout game 2007

Well, last night spent a cool, rainy night out at Security Service Field with the Scouts and the Sky Sox. This is an annual event and it seems that every year it is the coldest night of the summer and it rains. Overall, we still had a great time watching the game, the fireworks, and spending the night on the field. Feels like I only got 45 minutes of sleep though, so I got to go take a nap!

Last Baseball Game of the Season

Tonight, we had our last baseball game of the season! Overall what a great season we had. As a coach, I am always so impressed that these kids go from a rag tag group of players to a real team in such a short span of six weeks. Although tonight’s game was highlighted by rain that wouldn’t stop (we still played on) the kids never complained. Not bad for a bunch of 7-9 year olds. The gam was finally called in the fifth inning when the lightning began. Great job Red Sox on another fantastic season.
