Maximum Overdrive – The David Thuis Blog

Maximum Overdrive

O.K. once again it has been awhile… I know I have not written anything of substance in awhile, but as I said in one of my comments; I’ve “Been busy lately. Had to prioritize what is important. Family, home, and looking for a job has taken priority over blog.” Trust me when I say I am in “Maximum Overdrive” and boy the stress is beginng to make the engine knock a bit.

Now, I know I’ve used the busy excuse quite a few times and it is to the point of getting a bit old, but it is true. Here’s some things going on.

Cub Scouts… This had gone from all encompassing to back burner. Luckily it is the summer break for the Pack and little is expected from me. I have “resigned” from the Committee Chair position and am now just filling the role as Webelos Den Leader. Of course, since the boys are not in school, and there are no Den meetings this takes up very little time right now. This doesn’t mean we haven’t been doing anything this summer, so far we’ve attended the HP Day camp in Falcon and Scout Day at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. Our next event is the Sky Sox game/Camp out on July 11th, I don’t think many boys are going but it is still early I guess.

Personal… “The Boy” is on summer vacation and I have been spending tons of time trying to be a full time dad with him here in the house 24/7. No big events so far, though (in addition to the Cub Scout stuff) he has attended Archery Camp at the USAFA, we’ve gone camping for a weekend, attended A few Sky Sox games (To include baseball camp w/ the Sky Sox), and he is back playing baseball on base (I am one of the coaches). With gas and “everything else” prices soaring higher and higher I don’t think we’ll be having any “big” plans this summer, but we can still have fun without spending the limited “disposable” funds.

Home… Been spending tons of time so far this summer working on projects around the house. Totally refurbished the deck, even installing new stairs (the old ones mysteriously broke during my retirement party). The basement also flooded, not seriously, but enough to make a mess. Had to rip up carpet and dry everything out. The basement now looks better than ever, but it has been a ton of work.

Job Search… Still looking for work… Tough to do when the boy is home all the time. Still have some money to survive, but I can see the bottom of the well. Not a great sight let me tell you, so I have to get a job fairly soon. It’s O.K. that I have to go back to “work”, I am so ready to get back “in there” and do a great job for someone. Applied for tons of jobs, and even have had some interviews and some offers, just not much to be had right now. Tons of new jobs opening in the fall, and prospects look pretty good then. I am even taking a “Home-Based Career Seminar” tomorrow on Peterson AFB, to see if there is anything I can do @ home until the right job comes along. Just need to tighten the belts a bit and make the dollars stretch a bit more until then.
