Happy Halloween

The banana boy says "Happy Halloween!". A chilly night in the 30's, but still not too bad for Halloween in Colorado. Still, traffic was slow at the old thuis house. Only about 3 dozen kids came to the door. Anyone need some candy?

The Other Avalanche

While I am in a "did you know" mood. Did you know that their was another Avalanche team that used to play in Denver? The Denver Avalanche was a Major Indoor Soccer League (1978-1992) team that played in Denver, Colorado from 1980 to 1982. Their home arena was McNichols Sports Arena. The team never caught on if I remember right, which led to their quick demise. I think I remember going to one or two games while they were in Denver. If I remember right the tickets were very cheap.

SKY SOX HAVE MAJOR PRESENCE ON ROCKIES PLAYOFF ROSTER

I found this article on the Sky Sox Website and thought I’d share. Tried e-mailing the story directly to this blog but for some reason that’s not working (it might show up some time). You can view the original 3 October story here. It does make you wonder why the Sky Sox have not made it to the Championship game in recent history J And dad please notice the Todd Helton was a Sky Sox in the 1996-1997 and 2005 – 2006 seasons, I told you he was here but you never believe me… And I guess we now know why the Sky Sox beat the Rockies earlier this year... 13 of the current roster were on the Sky Sox roster this year... amazing!

The Other Colorado Rockies

Did you know there was another team named the Colorado Rockies? Maybe too many folks have moved here from other states but when I tell most of them I used to go to Rockies game in the 80's they rarely believe me. After all the current Rockies weren't even a team , how could they have played in the 80's? Well folks they were a hockey team in the NHL and they really played in Denver. Playing in the now demolished McNichols Sports Arena they played from 1976-1982 and I remember going to many games with my Dad and my Uncle Val. More info at wikipedia can be read this here. By the way this team is still alive and known as the New Jersey Devils!

The Denver Bears

If you were a young guy growing up in Denver "back in the day" you probably remember going to Denver Bears baseball games at Bears Stadium (later named Mile High Stadium in 1968, but I still remember it being called Bears Stadium while I was growing up). This was the only game in town and I remember the big July 4th games. I was sitting at the NLCS Game 3 and a few folks and I began talking about the Bears with a few other folks. Though many remembered the Bears (and later the Denver Zephyrs) no one really knew what happened to them. Well the team is still alive, if not in Denver. Now known as the New Orleans Zephyrs you can find a bunch of information on the at Wikipedia which I have linked here.

Community Organization Award

Once again thanks to the BSA for awarding me my forth Adult Leader Knot. Thanks for sending me the Community Organization Award, again I appreciate it.

YAWN!

Well I decided not to be petty nor a fair weather fan and watch the World Series tonight. I wish I hadn’t… What were the Rockies doing tonight? What has the pitching staff been doing the last 8 days… Practicing pitching on the Wii? Looking more like the Rockies that I saw beat by the Colorado Springs Sky Sox earlier this year, I could not believe I was watching a Championship game. I don’t know who has been more painful to watch; the Rockies getting their Gluteus Maximus (probably not spelled right) waxed or the most boring fans in Pro sports history. Hey Boston your team is in the World Series… You are creaming us…and all FOX can show us is some kid having what looks like a spasm… You could get a little pumped up… Well Rockies you now have something in common with the Bronco’s… Both of you have had embarrassing losses this month.

By the way, in case you live in a cave... Final Score Sox 13, Rocks 1

Also for those of you not at the previous mentioned Rockies/SkySox game... March 30, 2007... Rockies 3, SkySox 5

Ticketgate 2007

I've calmed down a bit from yesterday. You know I wasn't upset yesterday at not getting a ticket. I never expected to get one. It was the Rockies response that had me furious. The below story is a good representation of what I saw yesterday. Even today I have not seen anything official from the Rockies Administration on this.

Looks like someone else was as iritated as I was...

Tuesday, October 23, 2007

Can you believe it?

I am listening to 850 KOA and folks are calling stating they got on the Rockies ticket website numerous times… One guy said he bought 24 tickets even though there was supposedly a four ticket limit. Again, disgraceful! Thanks to Lois Melkonian of “the Ride Home” on 850 KOA for sending me a nice e-mail after I wrote to 850 KOA with my frustration of them letting these folks who got on six times and bought 24 ticket to get on the air to gloat…By the way she didn't get tickets either... Sorry Lois.

From 9 News.Com

Again I ask how can the Rockies call this a success??

http://www.9news.com/news/top-article.aspx?storyid=79563

ROCKIES what the @#%$

O.K. not one to usually vent, but, I have to say what a disappointment the Rockies on-line sale fiasco was. Over Four hours on the Rockies site in the last two days and I couldn't even "get in" to buy a single ticket. All I got to do was stare at a site with a line stating "To improve your ticket-buying experience and to make it as pleasant as possible, this site permits entry to a limited number of patrons at a time." Watching the countdown clock get to 1 for the 1,000 time and then watching my computer freeze forever (thinking I finally got in) and then getting a site timeout error time and time again... Then having to start all over again at the "back of the line. Well Rockies, my ticket buying experience wasn't improved or pleasant!

The most frustrating part I think, was listening to the Rockies spokesperson lying all day...stating "everything is working fine... the site is just slow"... And me sitting here thinking B.S.! I have been kicked off the site some 12 times today alone... Losing my "place in line" and staring at this stupid "waiting room" screen... This was supposed to be "the fairest way" of getting tickets to the fans but it failed miserably. The mere fact that it took two and a half hours to "sell out" proves the site was not working properly. I never expected to get a ticket... as a matter of fact I expected them all to be gone in about 15 minutes... but this was definitely the not "most fair" way to distribute these tickets.

Now I am listening the spokesman live saying "for those of you that couldn't get tickets we feel for you" what a crock... You don't feel for us... It's just money to you. I hate to say this has diminished my "fanship" for this team, but I think it has... I historically have not been a huge fan of "pro" sports to begin with... I think most players are overpaid crybabies... But I have to admit I really liked this team this year. Watching a few of these player grow here locally with the SkySox, had given me a new appreciation of the game.

Well guys... I really did enjoy being at the Championship games... It was great watching how much my son actully enjoyed the games and how he actually sat and watched every minute (tough for 8 year old at 10:00 in the freezing rain). But right now I don't know if I even care about the World Series with the Rockies in it. I guess next year it will be back to the Sky Sox... at least they've never let the fans down... Or lied to us... The system worked fine... what a crock...

NCLS Game # 3

Thanks a ton to our friends the Waller's for inviting us to the first Colorado home NLCS game. Great seats and some great fun watching the Rockies beat the Diamondbacks. The only downfall... three plus hours in the rain... at least the NL didn't call the game due to rain!

Big Cub Scout Training Weekend

Well I just got back from the Air Force Academy where I spend last night and most of today "roughing it" attending Baloo (Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation) and OWL (Outdoor Webelos Leader) training. A bit cool up there and I had to listen to the Rockies NLCS game on the radio, but I learned some great stuff. Now I'll be able to take the boys on some great camping trips this summer!

Thanks to the BSA for awarding me the Cub Scout Den Leaders Award! I'll wear it on my uniform with pride :)...

Well Rockies You Did Not Listen

Well Rockies you didn’t listen to me and went ahead and swept the Phillies last night.  So tonight I sat at home with my son watching the Broncos lose 41-3 to San Diego and the the Avs beat San Jose 6-2. This was instead of enjoying a Baseball Championship game on a cool fall night.  I guess that’s O.K. (at least for now)…  I have been offered tickets to at least two of the next three NLCS home games next week… Here is to some great games…

Saturday, October 06, 2007

Congratulations!

Congratulations to "the boy" who came in 4th place in today's 2007 Colorado Springs Scholastic Chess Series "The Opening" tournament, in the Rated K-3 division.

O.K. Rockies SLOW down

This message is for the Colorado Rockies…  Guys you don’t have to win this series in three games!  Sure it would be nice seeing you speed to the next level… And yes it is very impressive that you have won 16 out of the last 17 games…  And, yes, it has been entertaining watching you guys basically slaughter Philly… But, you see,  I am supposed to come to the game on Sunday and you guys are starting to worry my that there will be no game to see…  So if you could just lose one for me on Saturday I’d appreciate it…

By the way great job to the Avs… great 4-3 season opening game last night…  Winning against Dallas is always a treat…  Good luck tonight against Nashville!

October Already ?!?!?

Can you believe it is October already? I know I have not written much lately but boy have I been busy over the last month.

Cub Scouts: Resident Camp, Den Meetings, Pack Meeting, and the beginning of popcorn sales.

School: Assisting with PTO fundraiser and a field trip!

Family: Last month we had a couple of birthdays and (unfortunately) one loss.

Extra: Chess for the boy is up a running with the first tournament of the season schedule for October 6th.

Tonight, we had our first Den meeting of the month for scouts... Not normally a huge deal, but the guy that normally plans the meetings had to go out of town on short notice. That left me to get everything together at the last second. Even though today's meeting was "thrown" to together at the last second, I believe it was one of the best meetings we've had in three years. We sang a song (which we never do), played "flying pigs" (we don't play a lot of games), a passed out a ton of awards. The boy was elected Denner tonight by the boys. This means he is "in charge" of the Den until December. He is pretty excited by this as you can well imagine.

Well that's it for now. Need to finish up planning for tomorrow nights Pack Leader's Planning meeting (I am the Committee Chairman for the Cub Scout Pack as well). I think I am ready for that meeting, but never hurts to put on the finishing touches.

Tomorrow we have chess club and the afore mentioned meeting... always busy! I am also going to try and get a few photo's I have been saving out to my Picasa Web Albums. If I get time I'll work on my resume (Still not looking for a job, but will need to soon) and update the Pack 225 website (since it is October and still no monthly update)...
